It’s time to start talking about it!
Nobody told me that after having my first child I might experience some postpartum bladder leakage. So there I sat at my mom’s kitchen table with my family gathered around, still in pain from giving birth just two days before, and my sister being the comedian she is said something hilarious. I laughed so incredibly hard that I cried, partly because it was funny and partly because I didn’t trust my bladder. I tried to get up but couldn’t… and then it happened… I actually peed my pants. Right there in the dining room in front of my entire family. I was so humiliated. Postpartum bladder leakage is actually extremely common but because it’s so embarrassing to the people who experience it nobody wants to talk about it. Also, If I’m being completely honest I still avoid doing jumping jacks like the plague because I don’t entirely trust myself. It’s just one of the many things that happen to our bodies when we have children. We’re human, our bodies aren’t perfect, and this isn’t something we should avoid talking about.
